In other words the power which initiated the cosmic process and continues in some respects to control it has in it something like a human mind, will and purpose. Our images of God are all inadequate, but it helps to think of this humanlike quality. This humanlike quality in God makes it easier for us to think about God, even though all the images we use are inadequate. The image of father – ‘Our Father in heaven’ – has been helpful, especially when Christians meet together to worship God; yet it can give no more than a slight suggestion of his great reality.
